Conditions to study at German universities
Students graduating from high school from 2017 onwards, updated in 2023
For students who graduated from high school from 2017 onwards, they only need to satisfy one of the following conditions to study in Germany:
Condition 1: High school graduates with the High School Graduation Exam results allow students to transfer to University Preparation based on the selected combination taken, when satisfying the following conditions:
– In the High School Graduation Exam, they must take the independent exams: Literature, Mathematics and Foreign Language along with an optional combination “Social Science Combination” or “Natural Science Combination” including three subjects.
– The average of the six subjects must be ≥ 6.5 points, meaning the total score of the six subjects must not be less than 39 points and no subject must be below 4.0 points.
Conditions for studying abroad at German universities for students graduating from high school from 2017 onwards
Condition 2: High school graduates who have successfully completed one year of University study are allowed to transfer to University Preparation in the same or related group of fields that they studied at University in Vietnam , when:
– Suitable for candidates who do not satisfy the conditions stated in section (1.)
– That one year of University study is conducted according to a regular program in Vietnam.
Condition 3: High school graduates and successful completion of two years of university study allow students to transfer directly to the first year of a university in Germany in the same major or related group of majors studied at university in Vietnam , when:
– Those two years of university are trained according to a regular program in Vietnam.
Condition 4: High school graduates and successful completion of two years of University study allow students to transfer to University Preparation , when:
– They want to study a major in a different group from the major they studied at University in Vietnam and
– Those two years of University are trained according to a regular program in Vietnam.
Condition 5: High school graduates with a DSD I or DSD II Certificate are allowed to transfer to University Preparation for all majors , when meeting the following conditions:
– In the High School Graduation Exam, they must take independent exams: Literature, Mathematics and Foreign Language along with an optional combination of “Social Science combination” or “Natural Science combination” including three subjects.
– The average of the six subjects must be ≥ 6.5 points and no subject < 4.0 points,
– Have a DSD I or DSD II Certificate issued by KMK and
– Have confirmation from the DSD Coordinator.
To meet the requirements for studying at a university in Germany, students in items (1.) to (4.) will need to submit a Certificate or APS Certificate from the Academic Examination Department of the German Embassy in Hanoi.
These conditions are valid for admission from winter semester 2023/24.
Students admitted to university from 2014 or earlier
For students admitted to university in 2014 or earlier, they must satisfy the following conditions for studying at a German university:
Condition 1: Students who have graduated from high school and achieved a total score of 15 points in the 3-subject exam organized by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (excluding priority points, without coefficients) and no subject scored below 4 points, and have been admitted to a regular university in Vietnam, can study preparatory courses at German universities in the same major group.
Conditions for studying at German universities for students admitted to universities from 2014 or earlier
Condition 2 : If meeting the requirements of condition 1 and completing the first 2 years of regular university, students will be:
Direct admission to the first year of a university in Germany in the same major group as studying in Vietnam.
Study at a German university preparatory program without being limited to a field of study.
Condition 3: If you have graduated from College in Vietnam, you will be directly admitted to the University preparatory program in the same major group in Germany.
Condition 4: If you have graduated from College and have completed your 5th semester of university, you can transfer to study your first year in Germany at a university in the same field.
Condition 5: If you meet the criteria in condition 1 and have been granted a DSD I or DSD II certificate and have been confirmed by the DSD coordinator, you can register to study a preparatory university program in Germany with any major.
Students need to retake the national high school exam from 2017 onwards
Conditions for studying at a German university for students who need to retake the previous high school exam are also different from the first time:
Condition 1: Students must register to take the national high school exam with 3 independent subjects: Foreign Language, Mathematics and Literature, and at the same time take an additional exam of 3 independent subjects (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or a combination of 3 social subjects (History, Geography, Civic Education). The total score of 6 subjects must be at least 36 points (not including priority, not multiplying coefficients), no subject must be below 4 points and at least 4 subjects must have a score of 6 or higher.
Condition 2: If you pass the entrance exam to a regular university in Vietnam, you will be directly registered to study a preparatory university program in Germany with the same major you are studying in Vietnam.
Condition 3: If you satisfy the requirements in condition 1 and have a DSD I or DSD II Certificate and are confirmed by the DSD Coordinator, you will be admitted directly to the University preparatory program in Germany, regardless of the field of study.
Students participating and passing the national high school exam in 2015 and 2016
Condition 1: You must take the national high school exam at an exam cluster organized by a university with 4 subjects: Foreign language, Mathematics, Literature and one elective subject. The minimum total score of the 4 subjects must be 24 points or higher (excluding priority points, without multiplying the coefficient) and no subject must be below 4 points and be admitted to a regular university in Vietnam, then you will be directly admitted to study preparatory university in Germany in the same major.
Condition 2: If you meet the criteria of condition 1 and complete 4 semesters at a University in Vietnam, you will receive:
Study a preparatory course at any German university, without specifying a specific major.
Study your first year at a university in Germany in the same field of study as you are studying in Vietnam.
Condition 3 : If you have completed the College program in Vietnam, you will be able to register for a University preparatory course in Germany in the same major you studied.
Condition 4: If you have completed the College program and are studying in the 5th semester of the University transfer program, you will be directly admitted to the first year of the same major at the University in Germany.
